The Telefocus story began in 1979 when Nicolas founded
the company that was to become Telefocus. From the very start
it was a family affair - his wife Susie was the first canvasser!
Nicolas claims we are the oldest telemarketing company in
the UK.
Traditionally our work involves selling products to the customers
of our mail order and direct marketing Clients. This includes
associated services such as reactivating past customers, upselling,
cross selling and debt collecting. However, Telefocus is changing
for the business environment of the future. We now use telemarketing
to meet a wide range of business needs. Recent ventures include
a new quality control "mystery shopping" service,
trade sales and order processing, and traffic building for
a large UK retailer. We have also developed a full prospecting
service to achieve new business for one of our mail order
Clients.
Although Telefocus has grown considerably over the years,
the ethos has remained the same. We believe in creating long
term relationships with our Clients and working together.
Many of our Clients do not think of us as a telemarketing
company but as their telemarketing partners - that happen
to be in a different building.
In 2007 Hertfordshire PLC acquired the company. The philosophy of Telefocus remains the same, but with an added sense of commitment and focus on innovation, whilst continuing to deliver on our traditional values.
The relationship we have with our staff is just as important
to us. We employ around 300 canvassers and 30 support staff.
All of our staff are employed on a permanent basis and are
trained to develop experience of our Clients and their products.
Most of our work is done on a test/roll out basis and permanent
staff are needed to ensure permanent results.
Our training department is always active. They have designed
a number of workshops to develop our canvassers' skills in
pitch and tone, creating rapport and objection handling. We
are an accredited NVQ training centre and can run NVQ programmes
for other organisations.
Many of our canvassers have gone on to work as team leaders,
shift managers and into other areas of the organisation. In
fact, several of our board members started working for Telefocus
as canvassers!

Nicolas Tsoucalas, President
Nicolas has been in direct marketing all his working life
- first in Greece and then Australia, before moving to the
UK in 1974. He has over 25 years' experience in telemarketing
to consumers - a claim few, if any, in the UK can match.
